How a Brushless Motor Works (Spinning With No Brushes at All)
No brushes, no commutator, and yet it spins. A brushless motor moves the switching from the rotor to the electronics: three coils, a magnet rotor, and a controller that energises the coils in sequence.
The video shows the six-step commutation, how the controller knows where the rotor is, and why inrunners and outrunners look different.
In this video
- Three-phase stator and permanent-magnet rotor
- Six-step commutation
- Sensored and sensorless rotor position
- Inrunner versus outrunner
